What you can expect to result from an intervention?

Interventions are generally called for during a time of crisis. The goal of this caring, solution-focused process is to help the addict recognize the need for treatment – in most cases, immediate treatment in an environment that provides appropriate structure and support.

That may seem like some distant fantasy, but that result is often not that difficult. In many cases, the focus of the intervention will come away with new-found clarity not only about what addictive disease is doing to him or her, but also with a humbled recognition of the effect it is having on loved ones. In a majority of cases, addicts who participate in interventions do indeed seek immediate treatment.

That’s not always the case, of course, nor is the decision not to seek immediate treatment always the sign of a failed intervention. For some individuals, there are often some personal things to attend to. But when they do seek treatment, they generally go with a much more receptive attitude.
